urban landscapes and some other mutterings
Posted on 02/11/2009
Today has been a slow day for news which might explain why the reopening of the Oxford St crossing has got so much media coverage.
Yes you can walk across it diagonally now. For those of us who come from other countries where we have been crossing intersections diagonally for quite some time this might not seem like much.. But for a city like London where escalators on the underground can take years to be fixed this IS progress.
When I think of the term urban landscapes I immediately think of the wonderful Australian painter Jeffery Smart. It must be at least 10 years since I saw an exhibition of his at the Queensland art gallery but the images are still burned into my mind. Here are a few of my favourites.. and of course Oxford St in all its crowd numbing glory.
