I’ve always loved this song and recently hearing it on the Peaky Blinders soundtrack brought all the memories back.  Please enjoy – stacks of green papers in his red right hand! P.s I would have no problem reading this to children.  Is this why I don’t have them?
- [Not David Bowie :(](https://ingridthorpe.com/not-david-bowie/): What a horrible day.  David Bowie is gone 🙁 I will always remember him for many things but this is a favourite.  The video was filmed on location in Australia in a bar in Carinda in New South Wales and the Warrumbungle National Park near Coonabarabran. Bowie described this video (and the video for his subsequent single, “China Girl”) as “very simple, very direct” statements against racism and oppression.

- [The Land of Giants](https://ingridthorpe.com/the-land-of-giants/): First of all I think its pretty cool that Iceland had a electrical pylon design competition in 2008.  So credit to Icelandic electrical transmission company Landsnet and the Association of Icelandic Architects.  I can’t quite believe its 2015 and I’m only reading about this now!  But its lovely so better late than never.  I remember travelling around Australia and seeing vast swaths of the environment mown down by these pylons and wires.  It always looked so destructive to me.  So to find a way of making something that scars the environment into something of beauty is wonderful.

It’s good to get my camera out again too.  I’ve been snapping bits of the city in the last 3 weeks.  My goal is to visit places I never got around to doing when I last lived here. 🙂

Rainwater, especially during wet season, runs into canyon sections, picking up speed and sand as it rushes into the narrow passageways.

(Serves 6) 3 tbsp fine salt 450g dried haricot beans 2 tbsp oil 2 garlic cloves, crushed 1 small carrot, peeled and finely chopped 1 stick of celery, finely chopped 400g tinned tomatoes, chopped 2½ tbsp tomato ketchup 1½ tsp cornflour

- [Hipster traps](https://ingridthorpe.com/hipster-traps/): A fantastic idea – the Hipster Trap has started appearing in New York.  The brain child of Jeff Greenspan and Hunter Fine, who have done some similar outdoor installation work in NYC before.  The trap “bait” is PBR beer, American Spirit cigarettes, pink sunglasses and a yellow bike chain.  Very clever.  Melbourne’s northern suburbs could use a few of these traps.
